Bettina Thalinger

University of Innsbruck, Austria

Bettina Thalinger is a Senior Scientist at the Applied Animal Ecology Research Unit (Department of Zoology) at the University of Innsbruck. The detection of trace amounts of DNA in environmental samples (eDNA) lies at the centre of her research. She is currently leading the transnational Biodiversa+ project eWHALE, which uses non-invasive methods to collect data on cetacean populations and marine biodiversity in European seas. Additionally, she leads the University of Innsbruck Teams in two Austrian-wide projects: ATIV-Biodat, which is striving to unite conventional and DNA-based biodiversity data, and GeMonA+, which aims to develop a widely applicable, DNA-based module for biodiversity monitoring in Austria.
